1. My main ski partner, Eric, enjoying our best day of back-country powder last year at Stevens Pass. We were lucky to have this whole area of the mountain to ourselves on this sunny day, felt like the good ole days when we started skiing here ~30 years ago.
2. Eric got this shot of me the...
My buddy Gordy and I got his daughter Ann out on her biggest day of back-country skiing yet. It was also our first day of the season and perhaps the best ever with knee deep light powder and no rocks scrapping skis. She was worried she wouldn't be able to climb back out of the route we took, but...
Ruby Mountain is just off Hwy 20 in WA with commanding views of the North Cascades. In the winter it is a 5500 ft. climb to the summit, with lots of steep trees to navigate before you get to the fun upper open slopes. My friend Jerry and I hadn't done it yet so headed up yesterday hoping for ok...
An area I have been wanting to explore for a few years now is the west side of the Grand Tetons along the Idaho/Wyoming border. So this is one area where I was able to explore. This is from the Teton Canyon Trail. In the winter time they close the last few miles of the road in and then groom it...
My partner Jeff got this shot of me taking a rest on a ski descent of the Colman Glacier route on Mt. Baker many years ago. We were headed right, not down through that crevasse area below us!
My regular partner, Eric, and I had a wonderful day of back-country skiing near Stevens Pass yesterday. It has snowed about a foot in the last week and stayed cold (which is rare here in western WA) so it was still good powder even though the sun came out at times. More incredible was having the...
I've been back-country skiing with Eric for almost 30 years now. I think this is one of the best environmental portraits I've gotten of him in his element. Taken on the Cowlitz Glacier on Mt. Rainier last week. The summer corn snow was perfect - firm base, with fast slightly slushy corn surface...
My partner Eric and I explored some steep chutes off the Muir Snowfield last week. We were dismayed to find the lower part melted out into a steep waterfall that forced us to climb up and over to another gully that went to the Nisqually Glacier. We had this part of the mountain to ourselves and...
The shelter in place rules here in WA are pretty clear - including no non-essential travel. Our national forest trailheads are all closed, but the trails are open for those who live close enough. Up till yesterday I've been strictly following these rules (with the exception of driving an hour to...
My partner Jeff and I did what we think might have been the first ski descent of Columbia Peak's west face. Jeff got this shot as I started down the steep snow slope just at sunset. This was the perfect end to a very long and tiring day. We slept very well in our bivy just below the face.
In another forum I read that you can now post commercial music to youtube that will get denied if it's a problem, so I've gone ahead with this little video.
I hauled my DJI MP2 up Vesper Pk. in the Cascades yesterday. We thought it was going to be a mostly sunny day, but the mountains got socked in, we even got sprinkled on at the summit. I was disappointed with the light, but managed to get a few good shots. These are frame grabs from 4k video...
Brought my drone along for the first day of skiing Mt. Pilchuck this year. The snow is going fast and was a bit slushy/mushy but we still had fun. These frame grabs aren't perfectly sharp because I was using a 32 ND filter for the video.
My partner Jeff put together this little video of our day on Vesper Pk. in the central Cascades last week. I brought my drone, but didn't get much good video due to flat light. He uses a Go-Pro so shoots POV.
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
