While I was in Arches a few days ago, the sunset was pretty cool with the color lighting up the underneath of some clouds creating some arching patterns. But the best color was after the sunset. This is Turret Arch in The Windows area of Arches National Park. I have found that while Turret Arch...
Looking down upon the Blue Valley from Skyline Overlook in Utah with Ben a few weeks ago. @ckcarr Craig had just left Ben and I to our own devices, so it was a bit of twilight shooting while waiting for the Milky Way to make her appearance. The valley area I ended up warming up so much, it's not...
Ben and I were setting up to shoot the Milky Way after sunset and as it was getting darker I remember seeing a flash of light off in the distance, but wasn't sure what it was with lightning being a possibility. In the middle of taking this shot to double check exposure and such a lightning bolt...
This one is from March. I went to Moab to take a photo workshop with Joshua Snow. If you aren't familiar with his work it's worth checking out. It was a great experience. On this morning we went out to Marlboro point near Dead Horse Point State Park. The sky didn't really do much on this morning...
This is one from shooting with Ben at the Skyline Overlook a few weeks back. I was shooting with my Nikon D850 and the Sigma 14mm f1.8 in a wider open area where I could work some pano shots of the Milky Way without issue from the foreground. But I had found this cool set of rocks that I thought...
Most everyone knows I love staying up at night to shoot the Milky Way and the stars. Once in a while I will play around after shooting the Milky Way and shoot some star trails too. This is more of a fun shot, as you never quite know what you will get.
This is a 45min single exposure. Most often...
I have decided to think of Airglow as a Mini Aurora. :) It might be the closest I get to an aurora, and where I used to try and get rid of it when I process the photos now I have decided to embrace it.
This was when Ben, Jeffrey and I got together last week for a fun few days...
This is from my recent meetup with Ben when we were shooting at Skyline Overlook in Utah. I had a great time shooting with him. One of your sunrises we didn't have clouds so we had to work the sun the a bit. This is at f16 with the Sigma 14mm.
All comments are welcome,
Jim
This is Factory Butte from the south as you drive in. What I like is it lets you see the west side of it. 95% of all shots of Factory Butte I think are taken further north on the road so you are shooting the east side of it.
As Ben and I returned from exploring Cow Dung Road I asked Ben to stop...
Ben took me up Cow Dung Rd in Blue Valley to explore a bit and I found lot's of really interesting rock formations as we drove so we stopped a few times along the way.
I have more shots of this, but this was my opening view. I liked how the capstone on the leaning Hoodoo seemed to contrast with...
As Ben explained when we woke up for sunrise, there was no clouds at all at Skyline Overlook. One of the great things about Skyline is we can see Factory Butte from there. We saw that there was some light clouds forming around it and we knew no matter what we had a lot of wildflowers we could...
Haven't really been out shooting much lately, even though I "upgraded" a ton of my gear.
This was taken in March on trip with some buddies. This slot I am unsure why I waited all this time to visit, but it is not the easiest to maneuver in. Rope is needed to down climb. Lots of water this year...
Driving in Utah late at night on the I-70 I stopped at my favorite little hidden gem Millers Canyon. The storm clouds were breaking up and the stars were starting to poke through, I had hoped for a glimpse of the Milky Way but it was still behind the clouds. There are 2 light sources here. The...
This is from last Thursday at the Skyline Overlook. Thanks to Ben for helping me to get there with directions good enough that I could find my way on a moonless night along a dim trail and still find it. :)
This is a 4 shot blended pano due to it being a moonless night. The ground layer was...
"The Great Stare Down"
I had an interesting encounter with a horse while in Utah shooting images of the Onaqui herd of wild horses. I had walked down to look at a pipe that was cemented into the ground and was sticking up about four feet. There was not any type of marker that would explain its...
While I was on my trip I knew I was going to have two full days with no clouds. So I drove to the needles part of Canyonlands and on my way I saw this amazing display! CC welcome
A few years ago I did a one night trip to Utah in late December, hoping to get some interesting (and less crowded) winter conditions in Arches and Canyonlands. This is my sunset at Delicate Arch. The sky toyed with me, giving me hope of something spectacular before settling on "I guess that'll...
My first time in Canyonlands! It was fun to see all the people trying to catch the sunrise the first morning I got there late and couldn't really get a shot in because everyone was up in the arch... I have no Idea what they were all doing... This was my second attempt the next morning and glad I...
"Sir, You Will Regret Waking The Baby!"
I had an amazing time on the Hunts Camera Wild Horses Photo Adventure Workshop. This is the Onaqui Herd of wild horses. They are located in the Rush Valley, near Dugway, Utah.
It certainly looked liked they were concerned parents and they did not want me...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
