Autumn In January

One of the things I love about autumn in Arizona is that the season lasts from late September through early January. You just need to know where to look! Yesterday, I headed down to the Sonoran Desert north of Phoenix to check out an area I initially scouted out last winter. I was hoping I wasn't too late for some color and was pleased to find out I hit it just about right. Afternoon clouds in advance of an approaching weather system threatened to limit my shooting, but I got lucky when the sun broke through some cracks near the horizon close to sunset. I'll post of few from the outing.

These are really amazing Guy! That is so cool there is still fall color going on there. But your waiting for the right light is what really makes these go. I like the side lighting in all of these and the vibrance that adds to the scenes. And especially in #2 when the peaks in the background get topped with some golden light too. Awesome work.

Nice - the late day light really helps with colors and depth in the scenes. I like the first one with the saguaro arms reaching above the fall colors.

One of the things I remember about growing up in Phoenix was the fact that we only had 3 seasons and summer lasted for 7 months. I didn't consider that an asset at the time but extended fall immediately followed by early spring has always been a draw for winter visitors.

Nice set. I think the second is my favorite with that last bit of light on the mountains and the cactus in the foreground.
