Endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker

Neat capture - interesting to note the leg band on this specimen. Where does the red part of the name come into play?

I guess the male has tiny red patch above the white cheek. We also had about 4 young but the sun was behind them and could not get a good pic The young sound like Brown Headed Nuthatch which sound like squeaky rubber ducky toys.

What a cool bird to have close to you Chuck! There is something really cool about woodpeckers.

I've been watching several species at the trails I go to, they are very interesting. I wish we had the Acorn Wp in Fl. That is my favorite.

The weekend I closed out North American woodpeckers with the red Cockaded, Ivory bills were reported in Arkansas. Superb photo, Chuckp
