Endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker

I'm lucky to live in an area where we can see endangered Red Cockaded Woodpeckers. I don't see them every time I go to the area but they do show up on occasion.

I guess the male has tiny red patch above the white cheek. We also had about 4 young but the sun was behind them and could not get a good pic The young sound like Brown Headed Nuthatch which sound like squeaky rubber ducky toys.

I've been watching several species at the trails I go to, they are very interesting. I wish we had the Acorn Wp in Fl. That is my favorite.

I did see that one was reported in Arkansas some time ago about 2004 or 2005
