I took this with my I-phone a few minutes ago. Just wanted to test dropbox uploading and Photoshop processing.
You can always bring up Camera RAW filter (Shift+Ctrl+A) and process it after opening the JPG.Thanks Jim, I uploaded with Dropbox which only allows a jpg. Then I opened it in Photoshop and processed it there using my normal workflow. Acr does not open Dropbox images but PS does. This means I cant tune up the image in ACR as I usually do.
@Ben EgbertI was able to make import HEIC files via dropbox, but ACR does not even open dropbox, but Photoshop does. However, Windows platforms don't support HEIC and you get a warning message that states this very clearly.
So I could use ACR to preprocess a JPG as Jameel says, but there is no way I can open an HEIC file in windows according to the messages I am getting. This is no big deal, I will be using my Iphone as a snap shot camera.
Ok, I will try that tomorrow.@Ben Egbert
Hi Ben,
Here's the windows solution:
1. Click on this link https://tinyurl.com/uj9kebf
2. Click on GET to download the windows 10 codec for HVEC (HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer)
3. When you click on GET, another window will open, select open microsoft Store.
4. Once the store is open, click on Launch
5. Then click on Install, the software will install automatically
6. Now go to your folder where you have heic files
7. Double click the file to launch it...
8. Wallah...

Really strange approach by Adobe. LR and PS shouldn’t differ in their support for formats. Why is ACR and LR develop module different? Head scratcher. It won't open in photoshop, Adobe hasn't integrated HEIC into ACR or PHotoshop.
Open in LR, Adjust, Export as 16bit TIFF into Photoshop. LR comes with your Adobe subscription, if you have one. I use LR for minimal processing, i use it most for Preview / catalog / Synching files / i do majority of the work in Photoshop.
Have to agree - I use LR as my primary archive catalog and reading these files is entirely painless. I only discovered that Adobe was importing the HEIC files after I loaded some images in LR last month and found myself looking at the .heic file extensions while previewing the shots. I assumed that ACR would do the same although I rarely use ACR myself since I can can do far more in LR than ACR.Really strange approach by Adobe.
