Sweet Sunset!

Yesterday I had my Jeep packed and ready to go for a birthday weekend towards SW Colorado. I had lot's of family commitments with the Grandson in a couple of musical plays during the day. But my intention was to leave immediately after his 2pm performance. Unfortunately by the time it was over and the kids were out, it was almost 4pm. Now in the morning when I started up my Jeep it was blowing hot air in, the AC wasn't working. Now in 40 degree weather, that might not seem like a big deal, but when the hot air is either on or off, it's hard to regulate. So I swung by Autozone to get a fuse just in case it was just a blown fuse.

While pulling into Autozone it's now about 4:15pm and with the sunset at 4:30 the clouds were already taking on a super cool golden look. And then I saw groups of geese flying overhead, they looked so awesome with the golden clouds as a backdrop. I already had a camera set up with the 150-600mm Tamron, so I ran into Autozone, got a fuse, tried it, found it didn't make a difference. I decided to drive a mile to a local lake to shoot the sunset reflections and the geese.

I got to the lake, jumped out, and grabbed my camera bag, the D810 with the 24-120mm and the D850 with the 150-600mm and a tripod. I ran down towards the edge of the lake to set up and get the reflections and the geese only to find out the geese had disappeared. So, I didn't get any geese with cool sunset colors, but I did end up with 45 mins of an awesome sunset. Had I gotten there earlier I would have gone for a timelapse, but the sunset was in full steam ahead when I did get there, so I just did singe shots.

Now, when I finished that I plotted out my time to Grand Junction and realized it would be almost 10pm by the time I got there. I like to set up for Deep Space during twilight hours, setting everything up in a strange location in 28 degree weather in the dark didn't appeal to me, and of course the AC not working would make issues in driving comfort. So I scratched those plans. Instead I drove back to my daughters, picked up the oldest grandson and we went over to Texas Roadhouse for some steaks.... :)

This is one of the images, literally there was not a single bad sunset shot to be had this night. I took 71 images, and they are all looking good I thought.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Wonderful sunset colors and reflections. Sounds like a chaotic evening.
Thank you Alan. A Chaotic day. From the point I started my Jeep without the AC working, there was a bit of a cloud over the day. I am just glad that in the end I got a super cool sunset, and didn't have to deal with the uncertainty of driving around across Colorado with a less then 100% vehicle.

Sweet shot and back story. Too bad about the geese, that might have been quite a shot with some flying by, but if they were just sitting in the lake they also could have broken up the wonderful reflexion that you have here.

I would say "Glorious" sunset! Not only is it balanced, it's intense
The best part is heading back to you daughters & some "grandpa" time

Yep, I was glad to have the reflection for sure! Maybe next time I will get the geese. Thanks Jim!
