So I have always felt that while it is fun to share images online, for images one really likes it is more special to have them hanging on the wall somewhere. I originally started with paper prints I did myself, but eventually I moved on to metal prints. I like them due to the bright colors...
Once again, looking through my archive of older images for another reason, I chanced upon an image that I liked but had not originally chosen to post anywhere. In this case, I think it was due to some power/phone lines that were in the upper left corner of the image. Back in 2014 when the image...
So with no new astro data coming in since this past May I finally got down to seeing what I could do with my over 30 hours of data on this pair of objects.
This image represented a couple of 1sts for me. First time imaging a dark nebula as my primary object of interest and first time trying to...
So it has been a great leaf season around here in CO, and the color has now even been great right on the path behind my house. Here is my favorite one from a few days ago. This is taken with the new RF 14-35; it really is nice to have a small lens that can go so wide with me in my bag at all...
So here are the others I liked from my recent 4 wheeling trip above Central City here in Colorado. It turned out to be a prolific day of shooting for me, results-wise. I really liked how the softer light rendered the colors and contrast for the changing trees. Comments and critiques most...
So I was able to catch on as a passenger with some friends heading up above Central City for a day of off-roading through the changing trees. The colors were fantastic, with some sections blown off or past peak but many excellent areas still providing wonderful color. We spent time on Kingston...
So I think one of the best things about FocalWorld is the great resource that we have here of talented, experienced, and helpful photographers of almost every genre. This comes in handy when one's outing does not produce the results hoped for, as there is almost always at least someone here who...
I am still (not so patiently) awaiting delivery of this lens which I uncharacteristically ordered prior to any reviews. Now there is a review from Bryan over at The Digital Picture. He has done his usual thorough comparison of this lens with previous comparable lenses. he has found a lot to...
Back from a very short trip to Custer State Park. My original thought was to mostly shoot wildlife, but for a number of reasons I did not get that 'amazing Bison image' I was hoping for, although I will probably still post a couple from the trip after I am done looking them all over. As luck...
Maybe not good waiting to post one's favorite until folks are likely sick of seeing this location :) But anyway, here is another set from our recent camping trip to the park.
Driving down Scenic Drive heading to the end of the paved portion of the road there were lots of chances to get out and...
So on the way to Capitol Reef NP it became obvious that the skies were going to be overshadowing the landscape for drama in many cases. While it was this type of weather that caused all the flash flooding that closed Cathedral Valley at the park and crippled I-70, it did make for some...
So firstly, I am SURE I posted the 2018 cloudless shot on here before, but can find no evidence of it, and it is interesting to me to compare to the 2 most recent images and see what 'sky replacement', done the 'hard way' ( :) ) looks like (since I am never going to be using the digital approach...
I have been lucky enough to have been able to take 3 trips over Trail Ridge Road in the park this summer. I never tire of that drive as there is always something special to see and try to capture. This trip was with 2 photographer friends, one of which had not done Old Fall River Road before. We...
So this is a set of data I took earlier this year. I was having some issues with my remote setup at the time and didn't like some aspects of how things were working and so I went off on a troubleshooting sidetrack and never got back to this. Eventually I kinda forgot I had taken the data at all...
My wife Claudia and I headed over Trail Ridge Road last Sunday. The trip had 2 objectives, see and photograph some scenery and end up eating dinner at the Sagebrush BBQ in Grand Lake for dinner! (YUM!) Both objectives were met :)
No matter how many times doing that drive I find that there is...
So I had grand ideas of some time-lapses from the top of the crater in Haleakalā National Park. But due to a number of reasons, all I got was a very short and heavily cropped 8 seconds of video. Enough to show the potential but not really all that compelling. A number of things conspired to...
After cruising along the shore we came back over the island and headed up to the start of the mountains. It was pretty amazing to see how the jungle was able to completely carpet such amazingly steep slopes. The early morning hour yielded some dramatic clouds and mist coming off the vegetation...
My next couple posts will feature images from my doors off helicopter experience flying over the West Maui Mountains just after sunrise. It was really the photographic highlight of the trip, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The morning ride was not bumpy at all, and the little helicopter was...
So here is a familiar target, just imaged by Jim recently. This version is shot at 580mm on a much smaller sensor, and so is not nearly as widefield, zeroing in instead on the section called 'The Wall', a bright area of Hydrogen emission shown along the lower edge of the frame (along the...
There are very few places to pull over on this road, so for this shot I had to run back down the road a ways and then had to crowd into the bushes to try to get safely off the road to get this shot.
Comments and critiques welcome
