    Next Stop, Maastrcht Netherlands

I've seen the bicycle parking garages myself. Bicyclists have their own two-way street between the sidewalk and road for cars, and I almost got hit by a bike when I first visited because I didn't look both ways while crossing the bicycle road. Here's a fact for you about Dutch canals...

    Waterfall Wednesday 6/4/2025

Here’s an unnamed waterfall near Bishop. There are no signs, no parking lot, no trail.

    Somewhere in the Tablelands

I went for a drive in the Volcanic Tablelands north of Bishop, CA, and stumbled into this canyon with a narrow, twisty, tricky dirt road. A field of wildflowers inspired me to take a break from driving. White Mountain Peak is in the background, just a few hundred feet shorter than Mt. Whitney.

    Thursday’s Task

Mountains, you say? The sunrise making the peaks of the Eastern Sierra glow from the top of the White Mountains (hello, Bishop!) Buttermilk Country at the base of the Eastern Sierra. Kearsarge Pass

    I’m Going Bald

Thank you. I didn't see any smoke whatsoever from the Inn Fire. It doesn't appear that the fire has grown much since Thursday night after it jumped U.S. 395. On one side it's blocked by the shores of Mono Lake and the other is a steep slope of the Sierra near another burn scar. The wind has died...

    I’m Going Bald

I went for a drive on random dirt roads yesterday in the Eastern Sierra and ended up on Bald Mountain Lookout, a hilltop at 9100 feet that provides astonishing views in all directions. The Mono Craters are visible in the right side of the image, Obsidian Dome and Wilson Butte are in the center...

    Winged Wednesday 5/14/2025

On Saturday I drove past a sparrow lying down in the road with its beak open. I picked it up and held it in the shade for a while. After pooping in my hand the bird flew away. I was wondering if this was a baby bird. Any ideas from the more experienced birders?

    Still learning

This is how I learned photography. My parents lent me their Pentax K30 during my time in France and because I couldn't get a job, I learned the camera. I took thousands upon thousand of awful photos of everything you could think of, until I got better at it. My favorite shot of the set is the...

    Steampunk meets Death Valley

I know exactly what building this is and it’s indeed flashy. However, the resident burros wandering the streets stopping traffic and begging for treats will always be Beatty’s draw for me.

Winged Wednesday 4.29.2025: Part 2 of Yard Birds!

Mandarin ducks are definitely not common in my yard. In fact, this was my first time ever seeing one in person. Taken just a few weeks ago at the Berlin Zoo in Germany.

I never even considered trying to wade into the water to cross to the other side. There was way too much of it.

    Boca do Inferno

I’m just about recovered from jet lag after returning from a week in Portugal and Germany. Perhaps my favorite part of Portugal was the afternoon trip to Boca do Inferno near Cascais and Lisbon. I found it a slightly difficult place to photograph due to the harsh light and shadows as part of the...
