    Back-country Skiing Selfies

I took my DJI M2P drone along for another run on Mt. Pilchuck yesterday. This time I was solo and was quite happy with the active track performance. These are screen grabs from the 4K video which I shot without a ND filter so that I could get sharp stills. I'm the red dot lower left of...

    Skiing Mt. Pilchuck

Brought my drone along for the first day of skiing Mt. Pilchuck this year. The snow is going fast and was a bit slushy/mushy but we still had fun. These frame grabs aren't perfectly sharp because I was using a 32 ND filter for the video.

    Game of Shadows

Winter is almost over but fortunately not everywhere! As expected, in Canada, we still have some snow out there.

    Arctic Moon Effect

Yesterday's moon on Mt. Seymour in Vancouver. The temperature fell to -40C. Who knew that spring can be so cruel? Some technical stuff: The rigid moon effect visible on the photo is not a technical issue. I noticed that under very low temperatures the surrounding air behaves as if it was very...

    Heather Lake Melting - Abstracts

Arial perspectives on a melting mountain lake. Interesting to see the soft looking focus on the melting areas and sharp on the dry snow.

    The Bend

When I was there I didn't think 550 would be open due to the massive avalanch they had. Here is a shot of 550 coming back down to Ouray. CC welcome!

    Snowy Colorado

I finally was able to make it to SW CO this last weekend!! This is my home away from home I love it here. This was just before sunset...No color in the setting sun but made for a nice B&W! All CC is welcome!

    Stormy Spring Day in Zion

I got this a few years ago on a spring break trip to Zion. It was sleeting most of the day, so we were "car hiking" up the canyon. I had my tripod set-up on my seat in front of me and shot through the window at the walls after my wife stopped at a pull out.

    Frosty

This was back on my trip to the Grand Canyon. My last stop was in Ridgway and the morning I was leaving it was frosty. Very beautiful to see! cc welcome!

    Wilderness area # 1

Was a great day for Infrared photography. (Canon T3i converted to 665nm, f/11, 1/80 sec, ISO-100) (cropped pano, lost a little of the overall affect)

    Shadows on Snow

Taken at the top of a fantastic ski run I did yesterday in the central Cascades. This poor tree has been beaten down by some avalanches.

    Pure

A magical evening on top of the mountain with lots of fresh snow and amazing light. One of the great properties of snow is how it can simplify and purify the landscape.

    Above Heather Lake

One of my go-to easy access little hikes to a beautiful mountain lake. Flew the drone yesterday for some winter views.

Snow and Stars at Arch Rock

This is from almost a week ago out in Joshua Tree National Park. Once I had woken up to a clearing of the snow storm around 3am and shot the classic rock and Juniper in Jumbo Rocks until 4am, I decided to run over to Arch Rock real quick and see what it looked like. It was about a 15 to 20 min...

NW Face of Morning Star Pk.

Drone panorama of Morning Star Peak's NW face in the Central Cascades. It was a joy to fly the drone over to check out this face in the afternoon light as we rested at a pass on our ski descent of nearby Vesper Pk. Years ago my partner Jeff (who was also with me this day) and I did the first ski...

    Vesper Pk.

I normally ski Vesper Pk. in the spring once the approach road has opened but I got an offer of a snowmobile ride yesterday that I couldn't turn down which made a winter climb feasible. I normally don't care for the damn things, but it sure made the 7 miles of road go fast! We brought the drone...
