The travels are blurring together a bit this summer now, but this was taken from the Dallas Divide outside of Ridgway Colorado. It's most famous for all of the fall colors taken there in the fall, but now that I have gotten into Deep Space Astro I have found it has remarkedly clear skies there with minimal light pollution. It was showing up as a Bortle 2 on the Bortle scale I checked. So that's super dark.

This was a quick edit as most of you know I have 6 grandkids running around here as I am spending a bunch of time at my daughters and using her house as kind of a hub to travel from. I do plan on reworking this one later, but I like this initial processing and editing. I purposely went wider on this one then some of my previous attempts.

39 frames @ ISO 1600 and 180 secs.
10 Dark frames
Nikon D850
Tamron 150-600mm @ 150mm
SkyGuider Pro

All comments are welcome,

Jim

It is a neat image. What kind of computer do you have available that can handle that much data?

Very interesting set of colors here. Pretty good for a quick edit. Looking forward to your usual edited version.

That's a great result! Seems like you already had a version of this if I recall, but from memory anyway I think this image is superior. GREAT colors (which is what makes this location so special of course) and hard to say from such a small version but it just looks more natural, especially as far as the star are concerned. All in all a really nice image!

Nice to know about that being a Bortle 2 area. 6 hours isn't too bad - that's about the same amount of time (maybe a hair longer) as it takes to get to the Abiquiu Reservoir area in Northern NM that our astro group has used a number of times. They do look pretty equivalent on the dark sky map. And of course, some nice scenic stuff there too with Ghost Ranch being very close by...
