Sutherland Falls, South Island, New Zealand. I was not able to get closer due to landslides and the imminent danger of further slides. This was in the middle of a 2 month dry spell, very unusual for fjord land, so the flow is well down. The entire falls have a drop of 1904 ft but this is only...
I returned to the same location as last weeks image and tried again. This time merging a faster shot 1/8s in with the usual 1/3s allowing more texture to show in the fast moving parts. Ken
Shot earlier today on a local stream. It hasn't rained here for 5 weeks and the forecast is for at least another 2 weeks of no rain but this little stream flows out of a small lake so some water is still flowing. Ken
From Tuesday this week. This has been the driest period since records began. The last rain fell on 5th April and then it was a 20 minute light shower. The forecast is for another 12 days of dry sunny weather thus the lack of new waterfall images from me. I went for a hike to photograph...
A few images from Sunday's short (15 miles) bike ride around the small roads in North Cumbria. The light towards the end was stunning. Thankfully I had a real camera even if it was only my old Fuji XE1. Ken
Thank you sweetgrass. It just shows that it is possible to get an image in almost any weather conditions providing you don't mind getting cold and wet ( very wet). Ken
Thank you Jameel. I would never have gone out photographing in weather like this, the break in the clouds was complete chance. #1 has a more complete range of tones but I prefer #3 with the incredible contrast. #1 may print well but #2 and 3 may be impossible.
Thank you Jim, now I am going to try and print #1 but I think the blacks may turn into a muddy mess. If I can get it looking good then #2 or 3 will be next. Ken
Thank you Alan. I have sat on the last 2 images for 11 years, thinking that I couldn't deal with the dynamic range but the modern AI masking has allowed me to rescue them. The first one I processed at the time but was unhappy with the foreground but it looks ok to me now. Ken
Welcome back Eric
Some more Red Kites from Southern Scotland. I now realise that wind direction is important in bird photography. I now have hundreds of images of the back end of Kites as they swooped down on their prey, into the wind and I was upwind and unable to move. Just another to think...
3 images from January 2014 on a trip to buy a bike frame. I was carrying my camera just in case and this time the light kicked off so a detour then a stiff hike up on to the limestone pavements to get a foreground for the dramatic light. Fuji XE-1 Fuji 14mm prime. Heavy rain throughout...
I have a few of these. Ken
The tiny figure makes it for me
I had photographed the bluebells before but waiting for someone just to walk through didn't work. So I returned with my wife and used her as an unpaid model
As often happens the tiny element becomes the subject
The important...
A short trip into Southern Scotland to photograph Red Kites. They are beautiful birds at one point floating serenely along and then with a flick of their huge tail feathers they can change direction and accelerate to almost 100mph. Ken
This is just playful sparring
Spring tends to be slow in coming. Our apple trees haven't started to bud yet, far less blossom. However this year's lambs have started to appear and I have started to go out on my bicycle so that makes it Spring. Ken
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
