I'm not good at guestimating these things, but I'd say that the inside of the arch is roughly around 20' or so? Here's a quick shot that shows three of the jumpers sitting on the top left of the rock.
There were 2 groups jumping last night, about 5 guys total. First they were jumping off the left side and then later right in the center of the arch. Any other night and I would have tried getting shots of them jumping, but with Bodhi Smith leading our group of 15 photographers we were pretty...
Went on an outing last evening with the local club, led by one of our recent guest speakers Bodhi Smith. Our destination was Hidden Arch, a place known by the locals for cliff diving and we had a chance to watch them jump while we were there.
:) I thought so. As familiar as I am with that area I was pretty sure you were set up facing a direction that wouldn't naturally line those two subject up with each other. It's a great composite, you have a touch of lightness across the base of the sky which gives it more realism. Mine's...
Thanks guys.
Hmm, looks like the original image was overwritten when I published the new one to SmugMug using the Lightroom plugin. Will have to watch out for that in the future.
Finally finished up the re-edit, took a little longer than expected. This edit pulled back on the purples a bit, as well I went ahead and made a composite out of it (my first) so that I could align the Milky Way with the pier.
There's plenty of roads leading to the Milky Way, but what makes this one stand out is the curve that leading into it. A less common interpretation which makes this composition stand out from the others. You also did a great job bringing up the foreground exposure.
I'll try this technique out later tonight or tomorrow. I'm sorta part way there already, with a magenta-filled layer on a low-opacity setting that I've masked out. Think I can add the color-range to it somewhat easily (though I probably have to go back and re-apply some of the Nik filters I...
Here's another image from my Lake Cuyamaca trip, this one capturing the Milky Way. I had really hoped to get the galactic core lined up with the end of the dock but a group of other photographers were there light-painting the heck out of the area so I shot elsewhere until they moved on, once...
I like this better than your other composition, as this one is more unique with the seaweed in it. I agree with Jim, the upper clouds aren't adding to the photo so rid it of the distraction. Might be able to knock a little bit of the sand off the bottom too, when I scroll the image on my...
Hills on the right subtly lightened and the image proportionately cropped to be more ground dominant. Almost thinking I'd have been better off changing the aspect ration when I cropped it to by 16x9, just to capture more of the meadow on the right.
No filters this day, that would just be a remnant from my editing. I'll take another look at it, thanks for pointing it out. :)
It's linked off my smugmug site, next time I'll grab the link url for something less than "original" size.
Yes, I go by John. Ryan and I have run in some of the...
My first post here, a big thanks to Ryan for letting me know about this forum.
This image is from last Sunday, I'd spent the night in the back of my big suv after staying up late with my son shooting the Milky Way across Lake Cuyamaca. When dawn came, the light woke me up so I slid out and...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
